S/Y PATIENT LADY, U.S.A. , Bob & Jean er,
We left shell point, Florida, our home port in the north east corner of the Gulf of Mexico, in March 1995. After shovelling snow off the deck during the "Blizzard of 1996" in Annapolis, Maryland, we crossed the Atlantic Ocean to warm up in the Med. So far we have wintered Seville, Gaeta, Venice, Crete and Rhodes. We planned to work on our tired PL (1981 Southern Cross 39) this winter ; however, we arrived at Kemer the afternoon of the first chamber music concert and decided to stay and spend the winter having fun. We are looking forward to walling more of the Lycian Way ( we've already done small section around Kekova Roads), chatting around the fire at the Navigator.....
maybe PL will get her "face lift" next year?

In year 2000 we sailed in the Balearic Island, Sardinia and Corsica and stopped for the winter in Gaeta, just between Rom and Nepal. This summer we are sailing in Greece and Turkey. We have made a lot of new friends and many experience - what a good life!
Before letting our dream come true, we have been sailing in Scandinavia for 20 years. Ingemar made an early retirement as a designer and marketing manager for a plastic company, same company where Ulla worked as economical assistant. What a chock for them and all our sailing freinds and neighbours! But they are all still our best friends! We both like to cook and have a glass of wine with our friends. Ingemar like to be jogging and do watercolour (not at the same time!) and Ulla like aerobic and chatting (even at the same time).
We have three successfully grown-up children left in Gothenborg and five marvellous grandchildren, most missed of all we left. Every winter we try to go back a few weeks to make up for that. But we will go on sailing for a long time - we like this life!

CAT. BEARCAT, USA, Bo & Libby,
Bo, Libby, Angus (12), and Kelsey (8) have been cruising on Bearcat, a 14 meter catamaran, since 1998. Our fifth crew member is Mittens, a cat we picked up in Gibraltar. We spent a year on the east coast of North America from the Bahamas to Maine, then crossed the Atlantic during the summer of 1999. Since arriving in Europe we have been slowly moving east across the Med, with one winter in Porto de Soller on Mallorca, and a full year in the northern Adriatic near Venice.
Prior to this great adventure we lived in the mountains of Colorado, where Bo was a veterinarian specializing in equine surgery, and Libby was a lawyer specializing in environmental law. Neither profession has been particularly useful for our cruising lives, although Bo has noticed many similarities between diesel mechanics and surgery.
Our interests include camping, hiking, rock climbing, skiing, exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures. Cruising has been a great experience for all of us, and we are really looking forward to Turkey, Kemer, and spending the coming winter with other cruising boats with kids! Many thanks to Sharon of Uhane Kai and to Hasan for getting this organized, and keep those kids coming!!

Ingrid studies on the boat for the third class with the CNED (Correspondence school). We did not never come in Turkey, we heard often speaking about this fabulous country and we wished for a long time to know it. We hope, thanks to our location near Antalya these a few months, to uncover your country. Ingrid likes to swim with the fishes, windsurfing, tennis, drawing and playing piano. Jean Pierre likes sail of course (it's a lucky on a sail-boat) the nature and the music and me I like my family, I like to play sport, to meet people, to laugh with them, to read, to draw and then every beautiful and good things which exist in the world and in my life.
S/Y QUINTESSENCE OF DEBEN, Britain, Daphne & Jim Goldsworthy
We are just starting an new phase of our life as live-aboards, planing to cruise the European Coast of the Mediterranean. (Many have told us we are starting at the wrong and of the Med! - but our yacht was in Kemer when we bought her this year.)
Although England is home tot our three sons and nominally home to us, we have spent most of our lives as expatriates , mainly in the Middle East and latterly in Mauritius. A Jim was in the business of constructing harbours, we have managed to sail wherever we have been - in craft varying from wind-surfers to yachts.
Our "home" cruising area is River Deben in East Anglia, where we still keep a small yacht. Each summer since 1981 we spent our "home" leave cruising around the North Sea, to Belgium, Holland and many of their inland waters, or the English Channel and occasionally the Channel Islands.
Over the years our cruising has been restricted to a few weeks but since retirement in July this year, we are very much looking forward to our new life and participating the great Winter programme arranged by Kemer Marina and already enjoying Turkey.
S/Y ZUGVOGEL, CANADA, Rudy & Irmgard Halbrichter
The most often question we are asked is: what means "Zugvogel"? It is a German word and stands for Migratory Bird or "Bird of Passage". We build this Boat ourselves in Toronto from 1968 to 1972. We had never sailed before, but many years of Kajaking between Labrador and Guatemala behind us. We put her in the water in 1972 and started after 3 weeks to head south. 5 Years Later we finished our trip around the world and had to join the Ratrace again. After retiring we are now all ready another 51/2 years underway, but we made it this time only from Toronto to Turkey. This our 3rd winter in this country and it proves to be the scenically most beautiful and staffwise the friendliest Marina we have ever been in. We are both born in Germany but live since 47 years in Toronto-Canada. We met here in Kemer old friends from our winter in Tunisia 3 years ago and hope to encounter many more new ones.
CAT. MAGIC CARPET, AUSTRALIA, Chris & Karyn Ennor
MAGIC CARPET is a 10 metre catamaran from Australia. It looks bigger because it is 6.7 wide!. Chris & Karyn sailed out of Sydney Harbour, on Magic Carpet, 7/7/94. In this time they have cruised 3000 miles of Australia's coast, then Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then the trip from Thailand to the Med, through Sri Lanka, Maldives, Oman, Aden, Eritrea, Sudan , Egypt, Israel,Cyprus and Turkey. This last season we did the Black Sea Rally and Northern Greece. Kemer is our home, in The Eastern Med. and we look forward to having a good rest this winter after our busy season, but we will certainly find the energy to join in the activities. Chris plays a bit of guitar and Karyn, blues harmonica. If there is anyone else interested in playing some live music we would love to play some with you.
S/Y HULA, BRITAIN, Richard Wood,
I have lived aboard "Hula" a Contest 46/48 sloop since July !999. This year having wintered in Almerimar on the south coast of Spain, I cruised the Balearics, Sardinia, Tunisia, Malta, Sicily and southern coast of Italy, arriving in Greece at the beginning of August. Here the pace slowed a little but enjoyed the Ionian islands and then the Aegean and Dodecanese after the Corinth canal. Whilst its any easy boat to sail single-handed, its not my choice, and have been lucky to have crew for most of this season. Kemer marina has been recommended many times this year by friends and acquaintances, as a very sociable place to winter, but since visiting have been very impressed by the quality of the surroundings as well. I have an interest in electronics and computing, and limited skills in the many aspects of maintaining your own boat. I enjoy keeping fit and socialising and am looking forward to meeting the other liveaboards this winter. I also hope to do a little ski-ing if it proves possible.
S/Y LAUDANCE, CANADA, Britta & Michael Jarvis
Serious sailing started for us in 1992 when we bought Laudance, a Niagara 35. The next four summers were used to get to know our boat, to explore the three easternmost Great Lakes and to round eastern Canada and the north-eastern US. We moved on board after our retirement in 1996 to spend the next 21/2 years along the US coast and in the Bahamas and Caribbean. An Atlantic crossing followed in 1999 while the summer of 2000 saw us in the Baltic when we got as far north as Lake Onega in northern Russia. In October, 200 we entered the European inland waterway system at Amsterdam, spent the winter in Paris and the following summer on the rivers and canals of France. We arrived at Mediterranean late in August at Port St. Louis sur Rhone, then took much of September to reinstall the mast and otherwise prepare Laundance for a further life at the sea. Another five weeks brought us to Kemer Marina.
S/Y VALERIE JEAN, BRITISH, Roger Brett
It is said that Hasan goes to great lengths to get a fresh boat into the Marina, in my case this is definitely true. At 1am one stormy morning he swam 70+ metres to my boat with one end of a much needed tow line. I was surveying the beach with my keel in a most unpleasant way. The Marina team most effectively organised my rescue. Prior to that I have been cruising the mediterranean since May 1999, when I left Gibralter. I have spent the last two seasons exploring the magnificent coast of Turkey, sailing both alone, and with friends. My wooden yacht, Valerie Jean,(formerley Sardonyx) is a one off, designed by Fred er and built in 1955 at Clare Lallows of Cowes, UK. She was the first of four yachts built for an rich Englishman, mad on racing, during an eight year period. Being wood, she needs lots of maintenance, 18 months work every year!My interests, apart from shallow water, and boat maintenance, include strange photography, ancient buildings (simple and grand) and occassional baking.
